I came across a forum recently that asked the question 'which (contemporary) musicians have a science degree?' I decided to do a little digging. The most obvious is Dr. Brian May, who put aside his PhD study due to the success of Queen. 30 years later he completed his thesis in 2007. It is in Astrophysics and titled 'A Survey of Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud'.
The other notable person I found is Dr. Brian Cox, who was keyboard player for a 1990s pop band D:Ream. He has a PhD in particle physics. His thesis title is 'Double Diffraction Dissociation at Large Momentum Transfer'.
There are of course other rock musicians with degrees, but these two brainy Brians must be top of the list.
